I've noticed that in the literature that the therapeutic dose is lower than what you have indicated on the monograph. Why the difference?
You may be looking at the pediatric dose. As a matter of practice in the toxicology profession, you never use the pediatric dose as a point of departure when an adult dose is available.
This is for the following reasons:
For the OEL, this for the worker population of employees. Therefore, the adult dose would be more appropriate;
For the ADE, the uncertainty factor for human variability is 10. This value accounts for sensitive subpopulations such as pediatrics and the elderly. Therefore, the OEL and ADE values would not change from those already indicated on the existing monograph.
